Jan 23, 2024

White noise sweeps are an essential part of modern music production. They are widely used in EDM, pop, and other genres to introduce tension and excitement. In this article, we'll walk you through the steps of creating a white noise sweep using FL Studio 12.

  1. Open FL Studio 12.
  2. Create a new project or open a project you are currently working on.
  3. Click on the 'ADD' button at the top left of the screen and select '3x Osc.' This will open a new instance of the 3x Osc synthesizer.
  4. On the 3x Osc interface, turn off oscillators 1 and 2 by clicking the small green LEDs next to their volume controls. This will leave oscillator 3 turned on.
  5. Set oscillator 3 to 'Noise' by clicking on the small arrow next to the waveform display and selecting 'Noise' from the dropdown menu.
  6. In the 'MISC' tab of 3x Osc, click the 'Smooth (HQ)' button to increase the quality of the noise generation.
  7. Close the 3x Osc interface.
  8. Make sure the new instance of 3x Osc is selected in the Channel Rack (it should be highlighted).
  9. Click on the 'ADD' button again and select 'Fruity Filter.' This will add a Fruity Filter effect to the selected 3x Osc channel.
  10. Open the Fruity Filter interface by clicking on the small icon in the 'FX' slot of the 3x Osc channel.
  11. In the Fruity Filter interface, set the 'Type' dropdown menu to 'Lowpass.'
  12. Now, it's time to automate the filter cutoff frequency. Click on the small triangle icon next to the 'Cutoff' knob and select 'Create automation clip.'
  13. Close the Fruity Filter interface. You will now see the automation clip in your Playlist.
  14. Drag the points on the automation clip to create the desired sweep. A white noise sweep typically starts at a low cutoff frequency and gradually increases to a high frequency.
  15. Finally, you can adjust the volume of the white noise sweep by automating the volume fader in the mixer.
  16. Experiment with different settings and automation shapes to create your own unique white noise sweeps.

Now you know how to create a white noise sweep in FL Studio 12, adding excitement and energy to your music. Take your production skills to new heights by experimenting with various effects and techniques!
