Creating White Noise in FL Studio 12: A Step-by-Step Guide

May 17, 2024

Whether you're looking to create an ambient soundscape or give your music that extra punch, white noise can be a valuable tool for any aspiring producer. White noise is a complex signal that contains all frequencies at equal intensity, making it an essential element for a wide variety of effects and sound design techniques. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating white noise in FL Studio 12, a popular digital audio workstation.

Step 1: Open FL Studio 12 and create a new project. To begin, launch FL Studio 12 and open a new project by clicking on File and then New.

Step 2: Add a new channel for 3xOsc. In the Channel Rack, click on the + button located at the bottom left corner and select 3xOsc from the list of available plugins. This will create a new channel containing the 3xOsc plugin, which we will use to generate the white noise.

Step 3: Configure the 3xOsc plugin. Left-click on the 3xOsc channel to open its settings window. In the OSC 1 section, change the CRS parameter to 0 and set the waveform to noise (a small white icon with a dashed pattern). To deactivate the other two oscillators, click on the Mute button located in the OSC 2 and OSC 3 sections.

Step 4: Adjust volume envelope for desired effect. In the INS tab of the 3xOsc settings window, navigate to the Volume tab under Envelope / Instrument Settings. Here, you can adjust the ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release) parameters for the white noise, allowing you to create a variety of effects such as sweeps, pads, or even percussion elements.

Step 5: Add effects and automation for more creative possibilities. To expand the possibilities of your white noise, you can add effects such as reverb, filters, or distortion by routing the 3xOsc channel to a mixer track and loading your desired effects. Further, you can create automation clips for parameters such as volume, panning, or effects to enhance the dynamics and movement in your sound.

And that's it! By following these simple steps, you can easily create white noise in FL Studio 12 and experiment with new sounds, textures, and effects to elevate your music production.
