Jan 24, 2024

White noise is a versatile tool that can be used for sound design, music production, and even aiding sleep or relaxation. Logic Pro X is a powerful digital audio workstation (DAW) that makes it easy to create and edit white noise. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating white noise in Logic Pro X from scratch.

Step 1: Create a new project
Open Logic Pro X and create a new project with the default settings. Choose the 'Software Instrument' option and click 'Create.'

Step 2: Add the ES P synthesizer
In the workspace, click on the '+' button in the 'Track' menu to open the 'New Track' window. Select 'Software Instrument' and choose the 'ES P' synthesizer. Click 'Create,' and the ES P synthesizer will be added to your project.

Step 3: Configure the ES P settings
In the lower pane, double-click on the ES P synthesizer to open its parameters window. Configure the settings as follows:

  • Oscillator 1: Set the waveform to 'Noise' and turn the level up to 10.

  • Oscillator 2: Turn the level down to zero.

  • Oscillator 3: Turn the level down to zero.

  • Filter: Set the mode to 'LP' (low-pass) and adjust the 'Cutoff' and 'Res' knobs to achieve the desired level of treble and presence in the white noise.

Step 4: Add effects (Optional)
You can further customize your white noise by adding effects, such as reverb and delay. Open the 'Mixer' window, click on an empty 'Audio FX' slot in the ES P track's channel strip, and select your desired effect from the drop-down menu.

Step 5: Record the white noise
Select the red 'Record' button in the transport controls to create a new audio region in your track. Play or draw in MIDI notes using the piano roll to generate the white noise. Adjust the length and volume of the notes to your liking.

Step 6: Export the audio
Once you are satisfied with your white noise, go to the 'File' menu and click 'Export,' then select 'Export Audio/Video.' Choose your desired file format, such as WAV or MP3, and click 'Save.'

By following these simple steps, you can create professional-sounding white noise in Logic Pro X. Experiment with the ES P's settings and effects to generate a wide array of unique sounds for any purpose.
