Step 1: Open the File in Adobe Audition
To begin, open Adobe Audition and import the audio file you want to clean up. You can either drag and drop the file into the software or navigate to File > Open and browse for the file on your computer.

Step 2: Identify the White Noise
Before you can eliminate the white noise, you must first identify it. Listen carefully to the recording and locate the most prominent area of white noise, typically found during periods of silence.

Step 3: Capture a Noise Print
Select a short section of the white noise by clicking and dragging over it in the waveform editor. Navigate to the Effects menu and choose Noise Reduction/Restoration > Capture Noise Print. Adobe Audition will analyze the selected portion and create a 'profile' of the noise to be removed.

Step 4: Apply Noise Reduction
After capturing a noise print, deselect the selected portion of white noise. Select the entire audio file by navigating to Edit > Select All or by pressing Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on Mac). Go back to the Effects menu and select Noise Reduction/Restoration > Noise Reduction (process). This will open the Noise Reduction settings window.

Step 5: Adjust Noise Reduction Settings
In the settings window, you'll see several options for adjusting the noise reduction process. As a starting point, set the Noise Reduction slider between 60%-70% and the Reduce By slider at around 15 dB. You can fine-tune these settings as needed, but be careful not to overdo it, as this may result in a loss of audio quality and clarity. Preview the changes by clicking the Play button in the settings window, making further adjustments as necessary.

Step 6: Apply the Changes
Once you're satisfied with the noise reduction settings, click the Apply button to process the entire audio file. Allow Adobe Audition to apply the noise reduction, and then listen carefully to the cleaned-up audio. If any white noise remains, repeat steps 3 through 6 as necessary.

Step 7: Save Your Edits
After the white noise has been eliminated, save your edited audio file by navigating to File > Save As. Be sure to give the cleaned-up file a new name, as not to overwrite the original recording.

With Adobe Audition, removing white noise from your audio recordings is a simple and effective process. Follow these steps, and your recordings will sound crisp, clear, and professional, free from any distracting noise.
