In this article, we'll show you how to use equalization in Audacity to get rid of that white noise and improve the overall sound quality of your recording.

What is White Noise?
White noise is a type of noise that is characterized by its uniform sound and frequency spectrum. It's often heard as a hissing or static-like sound in recordings, most commonly from microphones or other audio devices.

How Can Equalization Help?
Equalization, or EQ, is a powerful tool in processing audio, as it allows you to adjust the balance of different frequency components within a sound. By using EQ, you can reduce the white noise in your recording while preserving the rest of the audio.

Steps to Eliminate White Noise in Audacity:

  1. Import your audio file into Audacity by clicking File > Import > Audio, or simply drag and drop your file onto the Audacity window.

  2. Highlight the section of your audio that contains the white noise by clicking and dragging in the timeline.

  3. Go to the Effect menu and choose Noise Reduction.

  4. 6. Go back to the Effect menu and choose Noise Reduction again.

  7. Adjust the noise reduction settings to your preference (a higher value means more aggressive noise reduction). Click on Preview to check the audio quality, and adjust accordingly.

  8. Click on Apply to apply the noise reduction to your entire audio track.

  9. To fine-tune the audio further, go to the Effects menu and select Equalization.

  10. Choose a preset or manually adjust the frequency bands to your liking.

  11. Click Apply to apply equalization to your audio track.

  12. Listen to the result and make any necessary adjustments, repeating the equalization process if needed.

  13. When you're satisfied with the results, save your edited file by clicking File > Save Project or export it in your desired audio format by clicking File > Export > Export as (file format).

And that's how you use equalization in Audacity to eliminate white noise from your audio recordings. With a little practice and careful adjustments, you'll be able to clean up your audio and produce crisp, clear recordings in no time.
