Understanding Brown Noise: The Decibel Level and Benefits

Jan 23, 2024

Brown noise, also known as Brownian noise or red noise, is a signal characterized by a continuous frequency spectrum with energy inversely proportional to the square of its frequency. This produces a soothing, calming sound that is often used to mask other background noises. Although the precise decibel level of brown noise can vary depending on the source audio and listener's perception, it generally falls within the range of 70-90 dB. Brown noise is commonly used for relaxation, sleep aid, and noise masking, providing a range of benefits to individuals who are sensitive to auditory stimuli.
